WISDOMS

MISC

Kristy – [Hiker hunger] It wasn’t just being hungry, it was trying to keep your body going.
Feeling strong.

• Annette – It takes a lot of self talk to get yourself to eat tuna and tortilla and cheese, day
after day after day.

Annette – The hardest thing for me was not the hunger, it was the humidity.  And I don’t know if enough people talk about what it’s like to be in that kind of heat and humidity, exerting yourself day after day after day and then at the end of the day you’re done and you get in your tent and it’s 100% (humidity).

Lynn - Everything was always damp.  Cold and damp or warm and damp.

Annette – It makes sense that it’s this way, but we totally get that it means absolutely nothing, almost, to anyone who hasn’t done it… it does help that we have each other and we KNOW.  It’s impossible for people to understand the absolute, overwhelming experience that it is really.

Kristy – It’s so strenuous of a trail.  All kinds of different feelings with it cause we loved every minute of it.  It was the most epic thing we’ve ever done.

Kristy – We tried to stay in the moment of every day.

Kristy – The other thing that really gave me energy was to connect with people.

Kristy – This is the gift that we figured out at one point.  We would set a goal and within that day it could be completely different, then what we expected because we were open to whatever came.

Annette – Our attitude was “I wonder what this day is going to bring.”

Lynn – I had to really remind myself to stay in the moment and as long as I could do that, it was much better.  And then I could enjoy whatever was in that day.

Annette – We had a fabulous time!

• Just get out!

Kristy – I usually felt pretty good up to 17 (miles).

Kristy – I’m so proud of my body.  I just can’t believe my body did as well as it did.

Kristy – You always had this special feeling.  Like connected to something magical I think.

Kristy – I think what gave us the courage to do it is that we felt like just doing anything would be a win.  If we just went out and did Georgia, we would have expanded the confines of our lives cause it would have been a new experience.

FEET

Annette – If you do the Altras, you have to put seam seal along the toe.
Otherwise they pop open like the first few days.

RE-SUPPLY

Kristy – I cut weight on food and water.  Worked a plan differently.

• Annette – The food thing is tricky.  You have to eat enough to keep your energy level up.
So you have to have food with you and food that you will eat, which can be hard.
