WISDOMS

FOOD

• Five to six days worth of food at a time.  Just to save ourselves.  You get to a point if you’re carrying more food than that you’re just you’re paying the price as far as the amount of miles that you’re doing and the amount of weight you’re carrying.

THRU HIKING

• I enjoy some of the short trails cause you don’t necessarily have to take an entire summer off or a half a year off.  You can just do them in a couple weeks or a months time.

• You have to remind yourself that it’s not going to be easy and that you need to be patient because you’re not going to make the miles you wanna make.  And you can’t get frustrated with that.  You have to focus on the end goal and put in the hours every day and the miles will come.

• You either have to adapt (to what the trail is giving you) or you’re probably going to be disappointed.

• Every trail is different.

• Embrace everything!  Different situations, different times, different places…
just enjoy the fact that you’re out here.  Don’t take it for granted!

• I think the hardest thing I think for a lot of thru hikers is just starting a trail.  I think if you get to a northern terminus or a southern terminus no matter if it’s the CDT or the Superior Trail.  Just getting there is an achievement.  And then from there it’s easy… you just have to walk.

• Get gear that you’re comfortable with.  Save up the money and just start walking,
