WISDOMS

THRU HIKING

• Don’t get so caught up in the planning part of it that you forget why you’re out there.

• I wanted to be a little scared.  I didn’t realize how scary it would be at times.

• The further along the hike went, I realized how much I enjoyed just the lessons I was learning on trail and how it could be applied to my life overall… of learning to live with what you have and not wanting more.  And just learning what you need and how to use it efficiently.  And then also discovering the similarities you have with other people.

• You’re so vulnerable when you’re out there because it’s you and your pack and
whatever you’ve got on you.  That’s it!

• If you’re always scared to go out there, what’s the point.  And if you’re always scared when you’re out there, what’s the point.

• You’re out in these wild spaces, anything can happen so keep your senses about you.

• Be respectful of other people’s experiences.

• You can cross train a ton, but until you put full pack weight on and start walking with it,
you never know what that feels like.

• For me personally, the less stuff I have in my pack the less stuff I have to worry about.

• I don’t want to tell anybody what to do.  I’m willing to offer my opinion and my advice
if you want a shakedown.

• Hiking these trails is very physical, but its your mental fortitude that really takes a beating.

• The thing that really helped me keep going was the kindness of strangers and friends that I hadn’t talked to in years.

• At your worst moments or when you feel down and out something happens.  I don’t know what it is, but people will come through.  The trail will come through.

• We never do it alone!

• We get so caught up in the end result and forget to live each day when we’re out there.

• In the end, I tell people I just went for a really long walk.

• My goal is to change at least one person’s mind and get them to see what I’m seeing.
